SWIMMING: Comets squash Bulldogs by 40 points

The Comets paddled Monday past the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs to dominate the competition by more than 40 points for both the boys and girls teams.

Amherst earned a first place finish in every race except the girls 100-yard freestyle, the girls one meter dive, and the boys 200-yard freestyle.

Kaylee Judy defeated Olmsted Falls’ Claire Greller by 48 milliseconds with a time of 26.96 in the 50-yard freestyle.

The girls swam past the Bulldogs by nearly three seconds for a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing at 2:04.11.

The boys crushed their competition in the 200-yard medley relay, taking first and second places with times of 1:54.55 and 1:56.90. Olmsted Falls took third with a time of 2:18.09.

Amherst’s Nathan Moore secured the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle after defeating Olmsted Falls’ Eric Andrews and Austin Lockhart by 30 milliseconds.

Jake Kiska finished with a time of 58.95 in the 100-yard butterfly, which was about a second faster than an Olmsted Falls swimmer to take first place.

The boys finished with 114 points to Olmsted Falls 55 and the girls had 110 points to the Bulldogs 69.

Twenty-four points made the difference last Tuesday in the Amherst boys swim team’s first place win over the Rocky River Pirates.

Jake Kiska, David Burgett, Matthew Pecze, and Max Mlincek sealed first place finishes in their individual races.

Mlincek finished with a time of 1:04.38 in the 100-yard breaststroke, Pecze competed in the 100-yard backstroke with a 59.77 finish, Burgett completed the 500-yard freestyle in 5:13.32, and Kiska finished at 2:10.84 in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Comets also took first place in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays with times of 1:37.14 and 3:34.46.

Amherst finished with a total of 100 points and Rocky River had 76.

Allie Thorson led the Lady Comets against the Pirates with two first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

She finished with a time of 1:02.60 in the butterfly and 26.23 in the freestyle.

Kaylee Judy took the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:20.96.

The Lady Comets also earned first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The girls lost to Rocky River 112-64.
