Wet day for a 5K but runners unfazed

It sure didn’t seem like June on Saturday for the annual Amherst Sandstone Class 5K, with heavy rain and cool temperatures. But about 50 runners braved the conditions to complete the run starting and ending at Trinity Evanglical Free Church on Middle Ridge Road. About $1,000 in proceeds from the race will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank and God Cares Ministries.

The top three male finishers were Dave Leonard, 36, a former Malone College runner and current teacher at Steele High School; Brennan Crawford, 18, a recent Firelands graduate and former Falcons track and cross country runner; and Miles Pittak, 22, current Akron student and former Steele runner (three-time Sandstone Classic champion).

The top three female finishers were Lindsey Kaschak, 19, a former Olmsted Falls runner and current Akron student; Kailey Reed, 16, a junior on the Steele cross country team; and Carolyn Pullin, 44, female masters (over 40) division champion.
