The Amherst Junior High cross country runners returned Saturday to the Lorain County Community College course for the Jack Wilhelm Invitational.
Kaylee Haff ran a great race, dropping 22 seconds from her previous time for a seventh place finish out of 126 runners.
Other scorers for the girls were Marissa Anaya, Victoria Bailey, Hannah Aschemeier, and Megan Sayre. Emily Hughes had the biggest improvement of the day, running almost a minute faster than her previous best.
The girls placed fourth of seven teams.
In the boys race, Matthew Kirsch led almost the whole way. At one point, the golf cart leading the runners couldn’t even stay ahead of him.
Kirsch ran the two-mile race in under 11 minutes and finally beat the number one Avon Lake runner he’s been chasing all season for a first place finish out of 129 runners.
Other scorers for the boys were Ethan Barnes, Gabe DelValle, Ethan London, and Caleb Stempowski. Danny Falencki had the biggest improvement for the boys, dropping 28 seconds from his previous time.
The boys placed third of seven teams.
The Comets will finish the season Saturday at the Southwestern Conference championships.
