Kalyn Potyrala set a new career best time at the Centerville Saturday Night Lights Invitational.

She led the Comets girls cross country runners with a time of 19:42.

But Potyrala wasn’t alone in her record-setting pace — all eight Amherst runners set personal bests for the season in the incredibly competitive championship division race, which included 28 regional qualifying teams and five state championship squads from three states.

Freshman Leah Gerke cut nearly two minutes from her previous best to run 20:18, followed by senior Cassidy Hill (20:22) and sophomore Kaylee Haff (20:29).

Junior Victoria Bailey (20:36) ran her season best 5K, followed by senior Kayla Snowden’s career personal record of 20:39.

Senior Antonia Monteleone (21:03) and freshman Marisa Del Valle (21:27) also performed well.

The junior varsity team also competed Saturday in the Valley Forge Invitational at Cuyahoga Community College West, finishing eighth among 17 teams in the varsity race.

Sophomore Emily Hughes (36th, 23:11) and freshman Angelina Williams (38th, 23:12) led the Comets JV. They were followed by Courtney Cogdell (44th, 23:35), Marissa Anaya (48th, 23:50), Liah Miller (52nd, 23:52), Veronica Janosik (54th, 23:55), and Kyleigh Osko (55th, 24:04), all of which ran season best times at Valley Forge.

Freshman Kathleeen Kirsch (23:14) finished 11th in the open race, followed by Montana Griffiths (22nd, 23:52), Emma Sekerak (23rd, 23:57), Mariana Gilles (38th, 25:16), Estella Woodworth (39th, 25:17), Hannah Farley (53rd, 26:07), Cassidy Cser (74th, 28:06), Lauren Feakins (78th, 28:33), and McKenna Kessler (82nd, 28:52).

The team’s next race is Saturday at the Madison Invitational.
