Girls Cross Country

• Amherst finished fifth of 25 teams Saturday at the Kenston Invitational.

Senior Kalyn Potyrala ran 20:33 to lead the Comets varsity over the rolling course, finishing 15th overall. She was followed by fellow senior Cassidy Hill (29nd, 21:08), Victoria Bailey (31st, 21:20), Kayla Snowden (33rd, 21:28), Marisa Del Valle (48th, 22:03), Kaylee Haff (51st, 22:10), Antonia Monteleone (71st, 22:41), and Leah Gerke (98th, 23:22).

• The Amherst junior varsity competed in the open race at Kenston.

Emily Hughes (40th, 25:18), Liah Miller (41st, 25:19), Angelina Williams (42nd, 25:28), and Marissa Anaya (44th, 25:33) all finished within four places of each other. Other Comets finishes included Emma Sekerak (61st, 26:07), Veronica Janosik (62nd, 26:08), Kathleen Kirsch (73rd, 26:23), Kyleigh Osko (86th, 27:02), Estella Woodworth (88th, 27:03), Courtney Cogdell(93rd, 27:16), Montana Griffiths (107th, 27:56), Mariana Gilles (112th, 28:11), Noelle McNatt (113th, 28:31), Rain Wales (145th, 30:24), Erin McGuire (153rd, 31:27), and Cassidy Cser (155th, 31:48).

Junior Cross Country

• The Amherst Junior High cross country teams had their best race of the season at the Avon Lake Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

Hailey Counts had the biggest improvement for the Comets, dropping 1:25 from her previous best time. Ava Kelley and A.J. Smith had awesome finishes and both passed other runners as they ran through the line. Jocelyn George and Izzy Fernandez did a great job staying on the course and not following runners going the wrong way.

Every boy on the team improved their time, and the boys placed 14th of 21 teams. Jeff Keiffer, Joseph Miller, Liam Taliano, Owen Davis, and Jeff Rangel scored. Manny Trevino and Evan Draga also earned varsity spots the meet at Tiffin.

Catherine Turner led the girls and finished second out of 280 runners. Aurora Wilson, Hailey Salvagni, Ella Baker, and Natalie Raesler also scored. Jessie Boonekamp and Ava Murphy earned varsity spots for the next race. The girls finished seventh of 18 teams.
