Don’t burn our money

To the editor:

I am writing to encourage all residents of the Amherst Schools to support Issue 21. My support for this issue is based on being a community member, a teacher, and a parent.

As a community member of Amherst for the last 10 years, I am certain that a new, up-to-date elementary building can only add to our community, as well as our home values. Being a taxpayer, I appreciate the consideration our district has taken by choosing a building option that will not raise taxes and will also save the district millions of dollars in the long run.

As a teacher for the Amherst Schools, I believe I work in a very well-run district. However, our elementary buildings are aging and out of date. The cost to repair and maintain these aging buildings is like burning money. A new elementary building will only improve and add to the positive aura of our district while also saving money on repair costs of two buildings. Our students deserve the best!

Finally, as a parent, there is no other school I would have my children attend. Every day, the teachers of our district go above and beyond for our children. As parents, we want the best for our children. A new, modern school building offers all children the chance to learn and compete with the technologically advanced schools everywhere. My youngest son and all young children in our community deserve the best the future can hold. We can’t afford to let this opportunity slip by us.

Please vote for Issue 21.
