To the editor:
The school year of many students has already begun. This is too early and reflects poor scheduling on behalf of many of our school districts and state government, largely as a result of mandated state testing. The weather, local events such as the Lorain County Fair, and general “end of summer” activities must be taken into consideration. School ought to begin after Labor Day.
I commend our state Sen. Gayle Manning for introducing a bill in the Ohio Statehouse, calling for schools throughout Ohio to start the day after Labor Day. Please join me in supporting Sen. Manning’s foresight in not allowing everything school-related to continuously revolve around the “all important” state testing.
