We are growing! Become part of our news family

While the apocryphal refrain of “print is dead” has been echoing since the days of William Randolph Hearst, nearly a century now, it’s no secret these last few years have been especially difficult for newspapers.

Sixty-four dailies closed from 2013 to 2014 and overall U.S. circulation has fallen by four million over the past four years, according to the Newspaper Association of America.

From an industry peak of 63 million copies per day in 1984, today there are about 40 million copies sold per day.

Meanwhile, we here at Civitas Media are over the moon to say that our circulation numbers this year are up in Lorain County, thanks to both our amazingly loyal readers and those who have just recently discovered what we offer.

The Amherst News-Times has shown the greatest home delivery growth of all our seven Lake Erie region publications, with the Oberlin News-Tribune and Wellington Enterprise not far behind.

No one here is getting rich and every week’s editions entail long hours and tremendous effort. There’s always 60 hours of work to squeeze into a 37.5-hour week for each of our employees. So knowing that our readership is growing and hearing your wonderful comments about our work is greatly appreciated!

There will always be a demand to know what is happening in your neighborhood, in your town hall, with your local tax money, in your school hallways, with your hometown sports teams, with construction on your street, the businesses you patronize, and the police and firefighters you trust.

We are proud that you trust us to bring you that news.

If you don’t already receive our newspapers in Amherst, Oberlin, and Wellington, there’s no better time to sign up.
