Amherst police adopt new use of force standards

Amherst police have put in place new state standards as part of efforts to strengthen community and police relations.

They include guides for when and how to appropriately use force, including deadly force. The standards also address recruitment and hiring processes.

Established by the Ohio Collaborative Community Police Advisory Board in August 2015, the standards have been or are being adopted by more than 470 agencies statewide.
