A driver who rear-ended a utility truck early Friday and fled has turned himself in.
Draake Thompson, 22, of Elyria, was charged with failing to keep an assured cleared distance, failure to control, drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and leaving the scene of a crash.
The incident happened around 2:45 a.m. on the 500 block of North Main Street near Rainbow Drive. Amherst police Sgt. Mike Murphy said Thompson was driving a silver 2009 Ford Fusion when he hit the utility vehicle as a Charter One crew worked on the roadside.
Thompson tried to get a passenger out of the car but gave up and walked away, Murphy said. He returned later to try again and left, once more leaving the passenger behind.
A K-9 officer was called in to try to sniff out the suspect but came up empty. Thompson turned himself in to police on Saturday.
