A new councilman steps in

Democrat Brian Dembinski is sworn in as Amherst’s city councilman for the first ward Monday. He replaces Steve Bukovac, who stepped down in February to pursue a job as the city’s new information technology manager. “I guess it’s too late to change my mind,” Bukovac told the News-Times as Dembinski was sworn in. The newcomer was appointed to the vacant seat Sunday in a unanimous vote of local Democrats. He will serve through Dec. 31 and is on the ballot seeking election this November to a two-year term.
