Gunshots and a call to 911 resulted in charges Sunday for an Amherst man who allegedly held his wife at gunpoint.
Police were called at 1:32 a.m. to Rome Beauty Drive, where a 44-year-old woman said her husband threatened her life.
According to court documents, Kevin Cairns, 46, allegedly held a gun to his wife’s head and held her hostage in a bedroom. He was reportedly intoxicated at the time.
After 20 minutes of negotiations, the suspect was taken into custody, according to Amherst police Sgt. Mike Murphy.
Cairns faces counts of kidnapping, felonious assault, criminal tools, domestic violence, aggravated menacing, and using weapons while intoxicated.
He was taken to the Lorain County Jail with no bond to await arraignment Tuesday.
Cairns pleaded not guilty to the charges in Oberlin Municipal Court. Bond was set at $1 million.
