The St. Joseph K-kids, a service club sponsored by the Lorain Kiwanis Club, organized a Thanksgiving drive earlier this month at the Catholic school in Amherst. The students were encouraged to donate nonperishable food items and toiletries to help the St. Joseph Parish Vincentians’ food bank. For every item collected, a vote could be cast for a teacher in the building and the winning teacher agreed to wear a Thanksgiving turkey hat for the day. Mark Zach, the fifth grade teacher, won with 164 donations in his name and will wear the hat sometime next week. The school collected a total of 377 items to help.
