A man holding what appeared to be a black handgun caused alarm for Amherst police July 20 until it was revealed to be just a pellet gun.
Officers attempting to serve a warrant to 22-year-old Kaylee Nagy at a Sands Avenue address at the Amherst Village Mobile Home Park saw a man walk out the door with the weapon in his hand, according to a report.
Sgt. Jacob Perez wrote that he immediately drew his gun and ordered the man to the ground, and that the man screamed that the weapon was not real.
The suspect dropped the weapon, which broke open and was revealed to be plastic with a carbon dioxide cartridge inside.
Police determined the man had no criminal intent. No charges were filed but the pellet gun was seized and tagged as evidence.
