Staff Report

A 19-year-old Amherst man was seriously injured in an early Thursday crash in Amherst Township.

Alexander Brotzki was a passenger in the single-vehicle wreck at 12:28 a.m. on West Ridge Road just north of Dellefield Road.

Spencer Reavis, 18, of Lorain, was behind the wheel when his 2008 Toyota Scion veered off the right side of the road at a curve and struck not only a utility pole but also three trees, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Reavis was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center and Brotzki was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.

Both were later flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

State troopers said neither was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol was likely involved, according to a statement by Lt. Carlos Smith.
