Storm fringe brings high waters, low problems

It looks like we were lucky. Winter Storm Goliath, which buried much of the plains states, swept north of Ohio, leaving just cold, hard rain Monday here in Amherst. Check out here how the edge of the storm raised Beaver Creek to the brim (photo at the West Martin bridge). New Amherst fire chief Greg Knoll said he had no reports Tuesday of flooding in his fire district, including no basement flooding. That’s great news, which Knoll credited to downtown sewer improvements. The most recent work by city crews including lining this fall of storm sewers on Lincoln Street and Sipple Avenue.
