Amherst theater students to compete in Playhouse Square competition

Judges this spring will screen the MLS Theatre Company production of “Little Shop of Horrors” as part of the Playhouse Square High School Musical Theater Awards competition.

Amherst Steele High is one of 19 schools in the Greater Cleveland area to vie for the awards presented by the Broadway League Foundation.

“Little Shop” performances will be staged in April. Judges will award prizes in 13 categories including best actor and actress, costuming, and set design.

Nominees from Amherst will be part of the special showcase performance at Playhouse Square High School Musical Theater Award known as the “Dazzle Awards” on May 21 at Connor Palace Theater.

Winners of Best Actor and Best Actress that night will represent Ohio while working for a week with professionals at Minskoff Theatre in New York City, where the students will make their Broadway debuts.
