Eight-tunnel carwash being built at Conrad’s

A major expansion is already underway at Conrad’s Tire Express & Total Car Care on Rt. 58, less than a year after opening its doors.

A mega-carwash — the first of its kind in the area — is expected to open by January or February, said service manager David Cozart.

“There’s nothing I’ve seen that’s like this. It can do up to eight cars at one time,” he said.

Conrad’s has plans to add carwashes to many of its service centers in the region. Amherst is the fifth in Ohio to undergo construction but the first to get this new kind of wash.

Cozart said it will use foam pads rather than bristles, high-pressure nozzles, multiple exit heaters and fans to help with drying, and some new technology.

The 6,000-square-foot Amherst building was designed with carwash expansion in mind, he said.

And the way business has boomed in 2015, the company may need to consider future expansion. The Rt. 58 store has proven one of Conrad’s highest grossing locations.

“Business has been overwhelming this year,” said Cozart. “If the cars keep coming in the way we are, there might be potential that we’ll have to add on to the building again.”

Started in 1969 by Joan and Ed Conrad, the company now boasts 34 Northeast Ohio locations.
