A flipped car led to impaired driving charges for a 35-year-old Birmingham man Saturday morning.
Chad Layne was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to control.
His car took out a city utility pole and landed passenger-side-down against an Ohio Edison pole just after 11 a.m. on South Lake Street, according to Amherst fire chief Jim Wilhelm.
A boy, likely 12 or 13 years old, suffered head and mouth cuts. A girl, about 14, was badly shaken but didn’t appear to have any serious injuries, the chief said.
Both the driver and children were taken to the hospital.
Wilhelm said firefighters closed South Lake at Greenforest Drive to clean up leaking fluids, downed wires, and a shattered pole.
