Two new Falcons varsity coaches hired

New head coaches have been hired to lead the Firelands Falcons girls varsity soccer and volleyball programs in the 2016-2017 school year.

Kevin Ziegler was approved as the new girls varsity soccer head coach March 14 by the board of education.

He has 15 years of head coaching experience, was named Patriot Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2011, received the Lorain County Soccer Coaches Association DIII Coach of the Year honor in 2010 and 2011, and was recognized as Coach of the Year for the entire Greater Cleveland DIII District in 2011.

Ziegler has coached several girls who continued their soccer careers into college, including former coach Morgan Ziegler and her sister Jacoby Ziegler, who was recently awarded NCCAA National Player of the Year at Cedarville University.

Marc Pogachar was also chosen March 14 as the new varsity volleyball head coach.

With more than 15 years of volleyball coaching experience at the high school, junior olympic, and junior college levels, he has served as head coach for the Commodores at Lorain Community College as well as the Open Door Patriots.

Pogachar is active in the junior olympic volleyball scene. He serves as an assistant director for Advance Volleyball Club and is a head coach for two of Advance Volleyball Clubs teams during the Junior Olympic season.
