The Comets’ first winning season since 2010 came to a close Friday with a 41-0 Senior Night shutout over the Westlake Demons (0-10). Khennedy Scagliozzo had a routine performance — for him — with three touchdowns, including an electrifying 54-yard run across the goal line early in the game. He connected with Devin Holmes for another 20 yards and a TD. Quarterback Matt Fairchild threw to Nathan Soto for a 59-yard score to send Amherst into the locker room up 28-0 at the half. A 55-yard TD run by Scagliozo and a nine-yarder by Aaron Gonzalez sealed the game and improved the Comets to 6-4 on the season and 5-3 in the Southwestern Conference. The record is a testament to the leadership of coach Mike Passerrello in his first year with the team. Amherst just missed the playoffs, mathematically eliminated from the Division II regional tournament. Local rivals Midview, Avon, and Olmsted Falls all made the cut.
