The Amherst varsity girls cross country team finished second in Saturday’s Southwestern Conference championships.
The Comets were led again by senior Alicia Del Valle, who finished third overall (20:05).
Sophomore Victoria Bailey (20:32) and Junior Leah Johnson (20:34) ran outstanding races, finishing eighth and ninth in the championship race. K.K. Potyrala finished 14th (20:44), followed by Kayla Snowden in 25th (21:17), Kaylee Haff in 27th (21:30), and Antonia Monteleone in 28th (21:31).
Four Comets runners were recognized as All-SWC, with Del Valle and Bailey selected as first team All-SWC and Johnson and Potyrala honored as second team.
The girls junior varsity cross country team also finished second at the SWC meet.
Three Comets girls finished in the top five overall to lead the Amherst JV. Cameron Leonard (second, 22:06), Rachel Williams (third, 22:10), and Rachel Lasso (fourth, 22:11) all posted excellent times.

The varsity Comets will continue their season in the district championships at Lorain County Community College. The girls race at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
