BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Amherst runners earn SWC honors

Elementary runners had a great day to race at the Southwestern Conference championships Saturday at Lorain County Community College.

SWC Second Team SWC: Matthew Kirsch

SWC Honorable Mention: Gabe DelValle and Jacob Raesler

The Comets boys cross country team placed third Saturday in the Southwestern Conference championships.

Josh Hill was the champion with a time of 16:24, earning first team SWC honors. Earning second team honors was Matthew Kirsch with a 16th place finish and a time of 17:56.

Gabe DelValle was next with an 18th place finish and a time of 17:57. Jacob Raesler was the top-placing freshman in the SWC with a 21st place finish and a time of 18:03. Right behind him in 12th place was sophomore Ethan Barnes with a time of 18:04 to round out the top five for Amherst.

In the open race, Freddy Guerra took third place with a time of 18:40. Freshman Cael Walker was right behind him in fourth place and a time of 18:41. Senior Andrew Vontell placed ninth with a time of 18:59.

The Comets will race again Saturday at the district championships at Lorain County Community College.
