Girls 5th, boys 11th in AJHS races


The Amherst Junior High School cross country team competed Saturday at the Early Bird Invitational at Lorain County Community College.

Catherine Turner had a great race and finished second of 311 girls. Sierra Dorobek, Aurora Wilson, Angelina Williams, and Aubri Amon also scored for the Comets.

Izzy Fernandez had the biggest improvement of the day, dropping more than two minutes from her previous best. Cassidy Cser also had a stand-out race, improving by more than a minute.

The girls placed fifth of 20 teams.

In a crowded race of 349 runners, Jace Perez, Sebastian Pecora, Nick Glahn, Seyveon Plaza, and Sebastian Calin all scored for the boys, earning 11th place among 20 teams.

Richard Tennant had the biggest improvement for the boys, dropping more than a minute from his previous best and earning a varsity spot for next weekend’s race at the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival.
