Amherst cross country runs wild at LCCC


Cross country runners from Amherst Steele and Amherst Junior High School found success at the Southwestern Conference preview meet this past Saturday at Lorain County Community College.

The Steele girls squad finished second with senior Alicia Del Valle leading the way with a time of 20:12 for a fourth place overall individual finish. Kalyn Potyrala finished 10th with a time of 20:49 followed by Leah Johnson in 11th place at 20:50.

Steele boys runners also placed second as a team.

Junior Josh Hill won the race with a time of 16:09. The next Steele runner to finish was fellow junior Devin Baumgartner, who finished in ninth place at 17:14. Sophomore Matthew Kirsch placed 16th with a mark of 17:44.

Jace Perez finished 19th out of 192 junior high boys runners. Zane DeMecurio had the biggest improvement for the boys — cutting over two minutes off his last meet time.

AHJS girls placed fourth out of 10 conference teams and were led by Catherine Turner, who finished second out of 192 runners. Natalie Raesler managed to cut her finish time by five minutes compared to her last event.
