CROSS COUNTRY: Hill strides to 5th at preview race

The Comets boys cross country runners had a good showing at the OHSAA preseason meet in Hebron. This is the same course as the state meet on Nov. 4. Junior Josh Hill led the pack with a time of 16:05, which earned him a fifth place finish out of 268 runners. Sophomore Matthew Kirsch was next for the team at 17:05 and a 43rd place finish. Junior Devin Baumgartner placed 64th in 17:28l; he was followed by sophomore Gabe DelValle (18:30, 166th), senior Andrew Vontell (18:59, 198th), freshman Jacob Raesler (19:12, 208th), senior Tyler Kovach (19:17.9, 216th), freshman Mario Benjamin (19:25, 223rd), sophomore Ethan Barnes (19:45, 229th), and junior Freddy Guerra (20:09, 243rd). The boys placed 18th out of 30 teams. The team will compete again at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Lorain County Community College for the Southwestern Conference Preview.
