Olympic gold medalist Tim Mack greets athletes Saturday and leads a workshop on his chosen event, the pole vault, at Amherst Steele High School. His appearance was part of the 8th Annual ASICS Amherst Track and Field Comet Clinic, which drew hundreds of students from all over the region. Mack is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and vaulted for Malone College and the University of Tennessee before setting an Olympic pole-vaulting record at 5.95 meters (19 feet 6.5 inches) in 2004. The Comet Clinic included other luminaries, such as Muskingham University sports science professor Tim Berger, Nittany Lions running star Bridget Franek, Oberlin College director of wellness and former track coach Jason Hudson, MAC champion and decathlon All-American Dan Kinsey, longtime University of Akron coach Dennis Mitchell, Canadian Olympian Justin Rodhe (shot put), and Ralph White, who has coached 15 Olympians and 41 national champions.
