Qualifying in six events, Comets indoor track stars were on fire this weekend in Akron.

Taylor Hooks set two school records, earning 11th place in the 60 meter race with a time of 7.89 seconds and earning 10th place in the 200 meters with a time of 25.67.

Josh Hill smashed the school record by 16 seconds in the 3200 race for a time of 9:21 and a 10th place finish.

The 4×4 relay team of Scott Kelley, Ryan Sturgeon, Devin Baumgartner and Ben Yuhasz placed 18th with a time of 3:32, a season best time.

Jaret Prete placed 16th on the weight throw (50 feet 8 inches). So did Logan Freeman in the pole vault (12 feet 6 inches).

The Steele track and field teams started practice Monday for the outdoor season. Amherst competitors are excited to host the 2017 County Invitational, the 62nd Comet Relays, the Southwestern Conference championships, as well as the OHSAA district and regional track and field championships.

Anyone who wants to volunteer should contact coach Rob Glatz at the high school.

The program thanks its major sponsors: ASICS, Sliman’s, The Brew Kettle, Hot Dog Heaven, Parsons Insurance, and Breunig Law Firm.
