An 11th place finish Saturday earned Amherst’s Josh Hill a berth at the state cross country championships.

The sophomore finished in 16:28 in regional competition at Boardman and will head this Saturday to Hebron, Ohio, for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s biggest race.

Senior Cameron Shawver was next for the Comets distance runners, placing 63rd in 17:30.

Also placing were Devin Baumgartner (106th, 17:56), Matthew Kirsch (152nd, 18:22), Andrew Vontell (158th, 18:30), and Gabe DelValle (196th, 19:40).

The top 32 athletes and eight teams qualified for the state tournament. As a team, Amherst placed 19th among 25 competitors.
