Comets swimmers earn 23 finishes in top 15 places

Comets swimmers finished in the top 15 places 23 times Saturday at the Sectional Championship meet at Cleveland State University.

The boys earned a fifth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay, and 400-yard freestyle relay.

The girls took 10th in the 200-yard medley relay, seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Senior Allie Thorson led the way for the Lady Comets with a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Olivia Walther also earned a seventh place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.23, nearly beating Thorson by milliseconds to the finish line.

The Comets boys had an excellent race with eight swimmers in the top 14 places.

Amherst’s Nathan Moore, David Burgett, Robby Beal, Max Mlincek, Jake Kiska, and Matthew Pecze finished at the top of the pack in two of their races.

Moore took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Burgett finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.24 and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke.

Beal placed 11th in the 200-yard individual medley and 10th in the 500-yard freestyle.

Mlincek finished with a time of 22.97 in the 50-yard freestyle to earn ninth place and he took seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke.

A 23-second finish gave Kiska 11th place in the 50-yard freestyle and he finished 14th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.18.

Pecze took home third place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.86 and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.

Amherst’s Sam Parker earned 12th place in the 200-yard individual medley and sophomore Adam Cook took home 11th place in the 500-yard freestyle.
