A satisfying 4-1 victory over Willoughby South greeted the Comets varsity boys on Senior Night at home.
Willoughby South got on the board just 12 minutes into the first half. The Comets answered one minute later when Ryan Sturgeon finished off a corner kick from Kameron Galindo.
The half ended tied 1-1. The Comets got on the board early in the second half when senior Justin Lepkowski stuffed home a rebound following a close range shot from senior Brandon Velasquez.
Lepkowski assisted on the third goal when he put Colin O’Connor through into the box and went one-versus-one with the Willoughby South goalkeeper. O’Connor then assisted Allen Matakovich for the last goal of the night.
Xavier Potts had two saves on the night for the Comets as the Steele boys won the shots tally 25-11.
It was the last home game for Comets seniors Nathan Blanco, Andrew Schneider, Brandon Velasquez, and Justin Lepkowski.
Amherst travels Wednesday to Avon Lake for the first game of the district tournament. Avon Lake defeated Amherst 2-1 during the regular season.
The Steele High junior varsity squad also defeated Willoughby South 3-0.
