Freshman Devin Baumgartner led the way for Amherst with an incredible time of 17:40, despite a difficult course Saturday at the Cloverleaf Invitational.
The Comets boys placed 14th of 23 teams at the meet.
Baumgartner was followed by Dru Trifiletti (18:58) and Dane Johnson (18:58).
Brandon Fernandez had a great race to finish with a time of 19:24. Freshman Josh Hill was trampled at a chaotic starting line, but was able to recover and still finish with a respectable time of 19:38 to score for the Comets.
Andrew Vontell and Tyler Kovach rounded out the varsity team by crossing the finish line together at 20:00.
Scott Kelly led the open boys to land a spot on varsity this weekend. He finished in 19:40, which is a 20-second improvement from his last race at Tiffin.
Following were Ben Brogan (20:01), Peirce Barnes (20:46), Alex Reyes (20:48), Matt Tram (20:51), Dylan Beam (21:05), Bryce Pember (21:36), Ben Yuhasz (22:13), and Alex Poalson with a time of 22:39.
The Comets will compete at the Vermilion Invitational at 11 a.m. Saturday.
