Cara Giannuzzi anchors the Comets 4×800 team, which finished 16th in the state of Ohio.

Brianna Sekerak looks strong running the third leg of the 4×800.

Up-and-coming star Marisa Gillam, just a freshman, is already performing at a state level.

Alexis Szivan’s high school career is over but she’s hardly out of gas.

After finishing fourth for the Comets in the 800-meter race Saturday at the state track meet in Columbus, she’s already bound for the Mid-West Meet of Champions this weekend.

There Szivan will represent the state of Ohio in action versus runners from Indiana and Michigan.

The footrace will give the recent graduate one more chance to break the 800-meter Amherst Steele High School record, which Szivan missed by just two-tenths of a second in Division 1 action over the weekend.

The previous record is held by collegiate All-American Theresa Feldcamp.

While not record-setting, Szivan’s fourth place finish was sufficient for All-Ohio honors.

She also ran one leg of the 4×400 relay at the state meet, finishing 11th of 16 teams along with Undrea Ballard, Marisa Gillam, and Gracen Siegenthaler.

The Comets 4×800 relay team of Gillam, Cara Giannuzzi, Szivan, and Brianna Sekerak placed 16th in Ohio.
