Kirsch, Anaya lead Amherst Junior High runners at Avon ‘Race to Remember’

The Amherst Junior High cross country team faced hot, humid conditions at the Avon “Race to Remember” last Thursday.

Matthew Kirsch led the boys and finished fifth of 101 runners as the young Comets boys placed second of 15 teams overall.

Other scorers for the Comets were Ethan Barnes, Gabe DelValle, Brent Baumgartner, and Ethan London. Caleb Stempowski led the open boys and earned a varsity spot.

Danny Falencki had the biggest improvement of the day, dropping 45 seconds from his previous best despite the warm weather.

The girls were once again led by captain Marissa Anaya, followed by Kaylee Haff, Megan Sayre, Hannah Aschemeier, and Erin McGuire.

Meg Gilles had the biggest improvement for the girls, dropping 17 seconds from her previous best.

Running in her first race ever, Holly Eliopoulos led the open girls and earned a varsity spot for next weekend’s meet at Cloverleaf.
