The Amherst Junior High cross country teams ran Saturday at the Tiffin Carnival.
Matthew Kirsch had a great race with a strong kick and finished second out of 328 runners.
Other scorers for the Comets boys were Gabe DelValle, Ethan Barnes, Ethan London, and Brent Baumgartner. The Comets placed ninth of 47 teams.
In the open race, Nate Hubbard had the biggest improvement for the boys team, cutting 43 seconds from his previous best time.
Marissa Anaya led the girls, improving her previous best by 17 seconds.
Other scorers were Kaylee Haff, Victoria Bailey, Amara Taliano, and Erin McGuire as the girls placed 43rd of 52 teams.
Hannah Aschemeier led the open girls and earned a varsity spot for Thursday’s meet at Avon. Megan Sayre had the biggest improvement for the Comets, dropping nearly two minutes from her previous time and also earning a varsity spot.
