Teachers ask for Issue 21 support

To the editor:

The community of Amherst has the opportunity to take advantage of receiving $14.2 million from the state by voting for Issue 21 on the Nov. 8 ballot. This opportunity will allow the district to repair HVAC systems at Nord Middle School and Steele High School as well as construct a new elementary school for Pre-K through third grade without a tax increase. Voting for Issue 21 will save the district over $500,000 each year in operating costs and emergency repairs.

Issue 21 will allow our schools to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, meet current safety and security needs, as well as update electrical systems for technology. These are all necessary if we want to meet the needs of our students.

The Amherst Teachers Association supports Issue 21. The ATA members look forward to the possibility of much-needed improvements and updates. We want to take advantage of this opportunity to provide the best for our students.
