We’re chalking the Cleveland Indians’ historic 22nd straight win up to the fans — a host of young Powers Elementary students wore Tribe gear to school Sept. 14 to show Amherst-style support for the team. Maybe these kids are lucky charms, because the Indians, down 2-1 to the Kansas City Royals in the ninth, went into extra innings on an RBI single from Francisco Lindor, then won on a Jay Bruce single that sent Jose Ramirez home in the 10th. Cleveland now holds the American League record for longest winning streak and arguably the Major League record. Only the 1916 New York Giants have a longer unbeaten streak at 26 games, though it’s sullied by a tie.
