Holiday lights are in place and Amherst is ready for the 12th Annual Miracle on Main Street extravaganza.
The event will kick off at Friday, Dec. 1 in downtown Amherst, where businesses will be aglow, the Christmas tree at city hall will be lit, and Santa Claus will arrive to delight good little boys and girls.
The Madrigals of Amherst Steele High School will provide musical entertainment starting at 5:45 p.m. Olivia the Elf will make an entrance at 6 p.m. to announce the Miracle on Main Street parade.
The line-up includes the Amherst Marching Comets of Steele High, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, youth groups, the Comets baseball team, Amherst Junior High cheerleaders, Santa, and more.
At the conclusion of the parade, there will be introductions from the bandstand at city hall and the grand prize will from Main Street Amherst’s prize-a-day promotion will be drawn.
The Madrigals will lead the community in Christmas carols and Santa will preside over the traditional tree-lighting.
The Main Street Community Center, 255 Park Ave., will be open once the magical guests arrive from the North Pole. Inside it will be transformed into “Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen” with train displays by the Papay family as well as arts-and-crafts projects for children.
