The Amherst Historical Society’s German Fest drew attendees of all ages this past Saturday. While kids enjoyed balloon animals, games, and horseback rides, adults polka danced to live music, looked over a train wreck display from 1916, and cooled off with beer. The city celebrates its German heritage each August, remembering the culture of European immigrants, many who came to work in the sandstone quarries.
