An Amherst school bus driver is being investigated after allegedly heading the wrong way on Rt. 2 last month.
The driver has been placed on administrative leave since the Aug. 25 incident, which according to superintendent Steven Sayers happened at the Oak Point Road off-ramp on the city’s west side.
There were no children on board at the time of the incident, he said.
“Once we became aware of the incident that morning, obviously given that safety is always our first concern… we decided the best course of action would be to place the driver on administrative leave effective immediately,” said Sayers.
So far, educators have had a preliminary meeting with the driver, talked to witnesses, and are trying to lock down as many details as possible about what happened and why. The superintendent said he anticipates a resolution in the next two weeks.
Sayers said transportation supervisor Cathy Moyer reported the incident to police once she was made aware of it.
