UH MedEvac up close: Care in the air

Jason Hawk | Amherst News-Times

A MedEvac chopper stands by on the helipad at the University Hospitals Amherst Health Center. Visitors to UH’s Family Health and Safety Day got a close-up look at the helicopter and the life-saving equipment it carries. MedEvac aircraft are based in Middlefield and Medina; from there, the crews can fly to 10 surrounding counties, including Lorain, within 30 minutes at any time of the day or night. The special day also included live music, a magician, face painting, child fingerprinting by the Amherst police, Amherst fire engine tours, and free screenings for a range of potential health risks such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, stroke, and pulmonary lung function.
