Police Blotters for Jan. 6

Dec. 23, 12:19 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to Discount Drug mart, 300 N. Leavitt Rd., in reference to a security alarm sounding in the building.

Officers found the store closed and all the doors locked. According to the police report, this was the 10th false alarm for the business in 2009. A store employee who holds a key to the store chose not to respond to the store. Drug Mart was then cited for excessive false alarm.

Dec. 23, 3:26 a.m.: Officers Jacob Perez and Michael Murphy were dispatched to Denny's, 900 N. Leavitt Rd., in reference to a disturbance involving a female inside the all-night eatery.

Dispatch advised the officers the woman, identified as Wendy Ditzler, first called 911 stating she was being verbally assaulted by a male. A couple of minutes later, dispatch received a call from a Denny's employee who stated Ditzler was causing the disturbance and multiple customers complained about her striking her young daughter.

Officers met with Ditzler outside the restaurant. Perez reported she exhibited signs of being under the influence of some type of narcotic.

According to the police report, Ditzler was unsteady on her feet, her speech was slurred, and her movements were slow and deliberate. Upon further investigation, Ditzler was found to be in possession of several different types of prescription drugs illegally, as well as drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ditzler later posted $1,700 bond and was ordered to appear in Oberlin Municipal Court.

Dec. 24, 12:05 a.m.: Dispatch received a 911 call from a man who sounded intoxicated and reported a fight inside the Amherst Eagle's Club.

The man -- who never identified himself by name -- stated he had witnessed a fight as he was leaving the club. When asked for a description of the parties involved, the man hung up.

Officers Jacob Perez and Michael Murphy did not observe anyone in the general vicinity. They had dispatch call the Eagle's Club again and found out they had "cut off" a male member from drinking and asked him to leave. They advised there was no fight and this male member was probably the one who called police.

A warrant was then issued for the suspect, charging him with misuse of 911 and disturbing the peace.

Dec. 26, 1:10 a.m.: Officer Josh McCoy was on patrol on Leavitt Road near Kresge Drive when he performed a random registration check on a silver Honda Civic.

After receiving a response from LEADS, McCoy discovered the vehicle's registration had expired on Sunday, Dec. 6. The owner of the vehicle, identified as Paul Pernici, had a prior in-state drug offense suspension.

The officer then initiated a traffic stop and found Pernici to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was cited and then released at the scene pending an appearance in Oberlin Municipal Court.

Dec. 27, 1:28 a.m.: Officer Michael Taliano was dispatched to Taco Bell, 940 N. Leavitt Rd., in reference to a miscellaneous complaint.

Two teenagers, 18-year-old Cody Kuhn and 18-year-old Brittany Johnson were found to be intoxicated. They were both placed under arrest and charged with one count each of underage consumption.

Dec. 27, 2:31 a.m.: Officer Devin Small observed a male, identified as Jeremy Pearce, standing next to a black Ford Ranger in the parking lot of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 396 Park Ave. The officer also observed a blue dumpster in front of the vehicle and it appeared to Small as if Pearce was attempting to conceal himself behind it. The officer traveled down Spring Street and entered the church parking lot through another entrance.

As Small approached the vehicle and asked him what he was doing in an unlit parking lot at such an early hour, Pearce stated he was talking on his cell phone and was not trying to hide behind the dumpster while doing so.

Small asked Pearce for his driver's license at which time he stated, "You are not going to get it," according to a police report. When asked why, Pearce went on to say "because I am a suspended driver."

The officer then ran Pearce's name through LEADS and found he had a suspended driver's license and the vehicle's registration should be confiscated on behalf of the registrar.

The license plates were removed from the vehicle and surrendered to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Pearce's vehicle was towed by Five Points Towing in Amherst.

Small then gave Pearce a courtesy ride to his residence.

Dec. 27, 3:54 p.m.: Officer Robert Hendershot, Jr. was dispatched to the lobby of the police department regarding a petty theft complaint.

The complainant stated he purchased an XBOX 360 as a Christmas gift for his son. Between the hours of 2 a.m. and 1 p.m., someone stole the gaming system form their Elyria Avenue home.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Dec. 29, 11:25 p.m.: Officer Michael Murphy was dispatched to Denny's, 900 N. Leavitt Rd., for a report of a male who said he was robbed behind the restaurant and was standing outside near the motel.

After a short investigation, the call was found to be a hoax and Murphy was unable to locate the caller.

Dec. 30, 2:24 a.m.: Sergeant Mark Cawthon, along with officers Jacob Perez and Michael Murphy were dispatched to the Pour House, 134 Park Ave., in reference to a fight in progress.

Upon arrival, officers found Matthew Resch and Matthew Vimpeny in a small fenced-in patio. Resch was sitting with his shirt off, yelling profanities and acting in a violent and turbulent manner, according to the report.

According to the police report, he put his shirt back on and kept getting up and sitting back down, all the while waving his arms around as he challenged other bar patrons and the owner to a fight.

Officers located Vimpeny who was bleeding from his lip and mouth and also complained of a loose tooth. He stated he was attempting to get in-between Resch and several other males to prevent a fight and he was punched in the mouth.

While speaking with both Resch and Vimpeny, Perez noticed the two exhibited signs of being intoxicated. During the course of his investigation, the officer also found Vimpeny was arguing with the bar's owner and acting in a disorderly manner as well.

Resch was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated, disorderly conduct persisting, criminal damaging and disturbing the peace.

Vimpeny was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
