Police Blotters for Jan. 27
Jan. 11, 9:40 a.m.: Officer Harold White was dispatched to 47685 Cooper Foster Park Rd., in reference to a vacant house that had been entered.
Once the officer arrived on scene, he spoke with an employee of New Age Property Maintenance based in South Amherst. According to a police report, he said someone entered the house within the last month and a half and trashed it.
Sergeant Dan Jasinski from the department's detective bureau was called to process the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
Jan. 15, 11:11 a.m.: Officer Michael Taliano pulled over a vehicle in the parking of Motel 6, 704 N. Leavitt Rd.
The driver, identified as Jonathan Sapienza, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after the officer found drugs and other drug abuse instruments in his vehicle.
Jan. 16, 12:09 a.m.: Officer Jacob Perez saw a black Lexus traveling northbound on Leavitt Road without a front license plate.
Due to the display of plates violation, Perez initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Speedway Gas Station.
According to a police report, the driver, identified as Evan Shaw, was aware of the violation and stated the license plate was in the glove compartment.
After obtaining Shaw's drivers license, Perez saw Brandon Sharp was sitting in the passenger seat and asked for his identification as well.
A check through LEADS revealed Sharp had an active warrant through the Lorain Police Department for domestic violence. After he was placed in handcuffs, Perez charged him with open container.
Shaw was also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and display of plates.
Jan. 16, 1:31 a.m.: Officer Devin Small conducted a random registration check on a maroon Jeep as it traveled westbound on Tenney Avenue.
It turned out the vehicle registration expired on May 12, 2009 and it had a "towed vehicle" notation added to it by the Lorain County Sheriff's Department.
As Small was waiting for dispatch to contact the sheriff's department and inquire if the vehicle had been removed from the impound lot without authorization, a deputy contacted the officer by radio. He stated the owner of the Jeep, identified as Matthew Opel, had a suspended driver's license and had the vehicle towed to his residence due to the fact he could not drive.
At this point, Small turned around and observed Opel make a quick left turn on to South Main Street. By the time Small turned on to the roadway, he was gone.
Officer Michael Taliano and Small located the Jeep parked in a driveway at a home on Crown Hill Drive. Opel was arrested and charged with driving under suspension, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and having expired license plates.
Jan. 16: Officer Robert Lane clocked a vehicle on Cooper Foster Park Road driven by Rolondo Ramson near Meadowbrook Drive at 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.
According to a police report Ramson was driving with a suspended license. After he was issued a ticket, Ramson was advised of his day in Oberlin Municipal Court.
Jan. 17, 4:30 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the area of South Lake Street and Middle Ridge Road for a report of a vehicle that had gone off the road and struck several trees. Upon arrival, they observed the truck in the woods at the end of South Lake Street.
Even though the driver was nowhere to be found, officers followed footprints which led them to Tyler Srokowski, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Srokowski was arrested and charged with OVI, underage consumption, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to control.
He was transported to the police department and held there until either his day in court or his bond was posted.
Jan. 17, 9:53 a.m.: Officer Michael Rosebeck was dispatched to the front lobby of the police department regarding a theft from a vehicle complaint.
The female complainant stated someone entered her unlocked silver Pontiac Grand Prix overnight and stole nearly $6 in loose change.
Jan. 17, 12:57 p.m.: Officer Luther Smith was dispatched to a home on Tenney Avenue in reference to a theft from an unlocked vehicle.
The female complainant stated sometime overnight someone entered her Toyota Avalon, as well as her husband's maroon GMC Jimmy and stole about $5 in loose change.
Jan. 17, 5:37 p.m.: Officer Joshua McCoy was dispatched to a home on Jackson Street regarding a theft complaint.
Upon arrival, he met with the vehicle's owner who stated sometime overnight someone entered his vehicle and stole loose change and credit cards.
Jan. 17, 7:09 p.m.: Officer Joshua McCoy conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford Taurus in the parking lot of Denny's, 900 N. Leavitt Rd., for following another vehicle too closely.
The driver, Jose Ramos, was found to have a felony domestic violence warrant for his arrest through the Lorain Police Department.
After the warrant was confirmed through dispatch, he was taken in to custody without incident and turned over to Lorain officers in the Super K-Mart parking lot.
