Police Blotters for Jan. 20

Jan. 7, 2:27 p.m.: Officer Zack Horning was dispatched to Lakeshore Automotive, 1423 Cooper Foster Park Rd., regarding an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle complaint.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the owner of the business who stated a customer had yet to return with one of his cars. According to the police report, the unidentified male came into the business and spoke with one of his salesmen about test driving a vehicle. After receiving authorization from the owner, the customer then left with the car.

The male informed the sales associate the test drive would only take a couple of minutes; however it had turned in to several hours.

The owner told Horning he would sign charges in the event the vehicle was not returned by the end of the business day. It turned out the man showed up with the car at closing time and the owner wished no further police involvement.

Jan. 10, 10:54 a.m.: Officer Michael Rosebeck was notified by dispatch that officer Harold White's cruiser had been struck by another vehicle in the parking lot of Oak Hills Apartments, 4749 Oak Point Rd., in Lorain.

According to the police report, while pulling in to the apartment complex, White passed a silver Honda, driven by Megan Thorne, which was in the process of backing out of a parking space.

Thorne failed to see White and struck his cruiser with the left rear bumper and tail light of her vehicle. This caused damage to the driver's side rear quarter panel near the gas door of cruiser #102.

Officers with the Lorain Police Department arrived on the scene a couple of minutes later to complete a report.

Charges are pending against Thorne.

Jan. 10, 4:51 p.m.: Officer Josh McCoy was on patrol when he observed the front license plate on a green GMC Yukon bearing Michigan plates was obstructed by snow. Due to the display of plates violation, the officer initiated a traffic stop on Liberty Bell Drive.

The driver, Pedro Mendoza-Rodriguez, confessed to McCoy he did not have a valid driver's license and was in the country illegally. McCoy then contacted the United States Boarder Patrol and advised them of the situation.

Upon arrival, agents took Mendoza-Rodriguez in to custody. He was transported to the Seneca County jail where he will remain until the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) takes custody of him.

The vehicle was then released at the scene to a valid driver.
