County executive plan offered
To the editor:
The recent NOACA appointment action taken by the county commissioners stresses the need to adopt in Lorain County an updated form of government, such as the county executive plan outlined in Section 302.02 of the Ohio Revised Code.
What will change?
1. There will be five districts established by equal population.
2. One commissioner will be elected from each district.
3. Added option. Add two commissioners at-large to be elected by all voters from the five districts for a total of a seven-person board.
4. The commissioners appoint a county executive, and the county would operate under a county executive form of government.
The county commissioners would be the policy-making body. The county executive would perform those administrative and executive functions that are the responsibility of county commissioners in the present general statutory form of government.
All residents will have a voice and equal representation.
Now is the time to chart a new and successful future for Lorain County. All Lorain County residents and organizations should gather forces, unite, and make it happen as soon as possible.
