Science Olympiad team headed to state competition

The Amherst Junior High School Science Olympiad team placed third overall at the Lorain County Community College Regional contest Saturday. Led by coaches Dan Kordeleski and Kelly Kordeleski, both science teachers at the junior high, the team will travel to the state finals at Ohio State University on April 16 and 17.

Gold medal winners are Stephen Sekoulopoulos and Ava Olin in Meteorology; Maggie Case and Alex Krutkiewicz in Physical Science Lab; and Alex Krutkiewicz, Morgan Igoe and Evan Figueora in Experimental Design.

Silver medal winners are Fahad Rahmen and Alex Krutkiewicz in Junkyard Challenge.

Bronze medal winners are Adam Meyer in Battery Buggy; Stephanie Houston and Hannah McDonald in Can't Judge a Powder; Maggie Case and Ava Olin in Bio Process Lab; Adam Meyer and Myra Zaidi in Compute This; and Maggie Case and Anthony Phillips in Anatomy.

Fourth place finishers received medals and include Jacob Kordeleski and Doug Sadowski in Trajectory; Morgan Igoe and Anthony Phillips in Fossils; and Evan Figueroa and Alex Krutkiewicz for Write it, Do it.
