Police Blotters for Feb. 10
Jan. 22, 1:31 a.m.: Officer Devin Small observed a beige Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck traveling northbound on North Main Street from the Five Points intersection.
As the driver continued down the road, the officer observed the vehicle weaving from side-to-side and even cross over the double yellow line several times.
Small then initiated a traffic stop near Shadylawn Drive and began conducting his investigation. The driver, identified as Ryan Hollohazy, was arrested and charged with OVI, weaving the course, and failure to travel within marked lanes.
He was released from jail after posting $1,300 personal recognizance bond.
Jan. 22, 8:12 a.m.: Officers Zack Horning and Alex Molnar were dispatched to a residence on Middle Avenue regarding a burglary complaint.
According to the caller, three males had entered her home and then took off running through the neighbor's back yard. The complainant described them as younger white males. One was wearing a blue sweatshirt, while another was wearing black sweatshirt, and the other male was wearing a green sweatshirt and carrying a backpack.
Molnar arrived in the area and began searching for these three suspects. After a foot pursuit, Jonathan Harris and Joshua Hamilton were apprehended.
Harris was charged with burglary, obstructing official business and resisting arrest, while Hamilton was charged with burglary and obstructing official business.
Jan. 22, 11:11 p.m.: Officer Michael Taliano initiated a traffic stop for an unknown vehicle violation on the entrance ramp from Leavitt Road to Rt. 2 eastbound.
During the stop, the officer found the driver, Monique Harris, to be in possession of an open container of liquor.
She was charged with open container and lighted lights violations.
Jan. 22, 11:42 p.m.: Officer Michael Taliano initiated a traffic stop on the grounds of suspicious activity in the parking lot of Motel 6, 704 N. Leavitt Rd.
During the stop, the driver, identified as Jennifer Keating, was found to be in possession of an open bottle of wine. She was placed in handcuffs and charged with open container.
Jan. 23, 12:10 a.m.: Sergeant Mark Cawthon observed a maroon Pontiac Grand Am traveling northbound on Collingwood Drive. As the vehicle passed the officer, he observed there was no front license plate and the vehicle's rear license plate light was not illuminated as required by state law. After observing these violations, Cawthon initiated a traffic stop on Cooper Foster Park Road.
Following an investigation, the driver, identified as Charles Draga, was charged with having no drivers license, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, prohibition, underage consumption of alcohol, curfew, and having no front license plate.
A check through the department's computer indicated Draga had received a prior diversion for prohibition, possession of alcohol, open container and violating curfew on July, 11, 2009. Therefore, he was cited in to Lorain County Juvenile Court, where he was later released in to the custody of his father.
Draga's passenger, Joshua Hinkle, was also charged with prohibition, underage consumption and curfew. Since Hinkle did not have any priors in the system, he was cited in to the Amherst Police Department's diversion program, before being released to the custody of his father.
Jan. 23, 11:22 p.m.: Officer Michael Taliano initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an unknown violation.
The officer found the driver, identified as Michael Sanders, to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and for failing to drive within marked lanes.
Jan. 23, 11:37 p.m.: Officer Josh McCoy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an unknown violation on Cooper Foster Park Road near North Main Street.
The passenger, identified as Jovan Robinson, was found to be in possession of drugs and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.
He was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jan. 24, 12:16 a.m.: Officer Michael Taliano initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a miscellaneous violation on Leavitt Rd. During the stop, the officer observed the passenger, identified as Marlena Taylor, was found to be in possession of an open bottle of wine.
She was charged with open container.
Jan. 24, 1:20 a.m.: Officer Michael Taliano initiated a traffic stop for an unknown vehicle violation on Cooper Foster Park Road. The officer discovered both the driver and the passenger were found to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Another passenger located in the back seat attempted to hide his identity with the help of the others inside the vehicle.
The driver, Adrian Solis, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and failure to drive within marked lanes.
His front seat passenger, identified as Jermaine Ross, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business.
Demetrius Dalton, Solis's back seat passenger, was also placed in handcuffs and charged with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
Jan. 24, 2:30 p.m.: Officers Troy Donaldson, Zack Horning and Josh McCoy were dispatched to Marion L. Steele High School regarding a male with an active warrant.
An off duty police officer noticed Raul Lorenzana seated at a table located next to the gym. After the warrant was confirmed through dispatch, the officers were able to take Lorenzana into custody without incident.
He was transported to the Lorain County Jail and held without bond.
Jan. 27: Officer Harold White was traveling northbound on Leavitt Road near the eastbound entrance ramp to Rt. 2 when he observed a tan Ford Windstar. The rear license plate on the minivan had an expired registration sticker.
White then proceeded to check the registration through LEADS, and learned the license plate had expired on May 16, 2009.
The officer then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, driven by John Charlton. After he was cited for having expired license plates, Charlton was released at the scene pending his appearance in Oberlin Municipal Court.
